Journey to Self
A compilation of works exploring how psychological and artistic influences shape an individual’s identity. Inspired by Carl Jung’s approach to use art as a way to explore the subconscious, it is a journey within; conveying emotions, experiences and a need to connect with a part of self that is often hidden or repressed.
The process
I like to study and understand things in depth, which is why my artwork is inspired by emotional abstract themes and symbolism. These stem from mythological references, exploring expressive arts and its relation to emotions.
The process includes rough sketches of ideas, theme exploration through color symbology and developing final artwork digitally.
‘Garden view’ - 12” x 16”
Like building a bridge or connecting dots, words and art create a pathway for your visual narrative
‘Truth’ - 12” x 16”
The concept of an egg symbolises potential, there is a need for the egg to break in order to reveal what’s inside, however fear creates a waiting period showing only cracks. This was inspired by Herman Hesses’ quote ‘The bird fights its way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who would be born must first destroy a world...’
‘Potential’ - 12” x 16”
There is truth beyond fear
‘Parts of me’ - 11.69” x 16.54”
‘Moon in Pink’ - 11.69” x 16.54”
I use repetitive patterns and lines to add details to the composition. I like to explore ideas that are rooted in emotion like the need for connection, meaning and purpose. It often feels like a map of experiences or rather my interpretation of it.
‘Knowing’ - 11.69” x 16.54”
Human experiences often shape the story but most of it is untapped in the subconscious, muddled with fear, thoughts and past wounds noone wants to face. Here, there is truth and an opportunity for growth.
Art has been a useful tool to do that.
